The first great battle of Islam
The Battle of Badr took place in the second year after the Hijrah, when a small Muslim army met a much larger force from Quraysh. Today pilgrims visit the plain of Badr, the place where the battle was fought and the graves of the fourteen Companions martyred there.
The journey
Badr lies on the old route between Madinah and the Red Sea coast, a few hours' drive from Madinah, so the tour is usually a full-day trip. Your driver collects you from your Madinah hotel in the morning and brings you back in the evening, with stops for prayer and food.
Before you go
- Carry water and sun protection — the area is open desert.
- Ask the driver to point out the sites linked to the battle.
- Read our Badr Ziyarat guide for the history.
Combine it with the Madinah Ziyarat tour on another day of your stay.
